my iphone is jail broken when i connect it using usb cable to my power book g4 nothing happens i even tried scanning for new hardware

You forgot to mention which model of iPhone, and which OS version.

The newest model of iPhone needs OS 10.5.8 or later. Install OS 10.5, use Software Update to get all available updates for OS X and itunes.
